2. Dry Skin
You might have dry skin if you have a dull, rough complexion or red patches. Your skin may be dry if you have nearly invisible pores or visible lines. Dry skin can crack, peel or itch. It can also become irritated and inflamed.
3. Oily Skin
You may have oily skin if you have enlarged pores, a shiny complexion, pimples, blackheads or other blemishes. Oiliness may change according to stress, hormones, humidity, and other conditions.
4. Combination Skin
Combination skin can be dry in some spots and oily in others. If you have combination skin, you might have oily skin on your nose and forehead but have dry skin on your cheeks.
Each skin type requires a slightly different skin care routine, so your skin care regimen may be different from another person’s skin care schedule. Your skin care regimen may even change as you age, as aging skin requires different care than younger skin. Your skin care routine must also fit your lifestyle – you may prefer taking two showers a day, for example. That’s why you have to develop a skin care routine that matches your own skin type, age, and lifestyle. Copying a particular regimen from someone else might not be as effective on your skin.
How to Establish a Great Skin Care Routine
You do not have to establish a 200-step skin care routine to have healthy skin. In fact, your skin care routine should have only three basic steps – cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Cleansing washes away dirt, grime, and oils that can clog your pores. Toning balances your skin. Moisturizing softens and hydrates your skin. Do these three basic steps to get healthy skin, but you will need to develop a skin care routine that fulfills your own unique needs.
1. Develop a Skin Care Routine According to Your Skin Type
This is especially important if you have dry skin, oily skin, or combination skin.
- Dry skin – Limit showers and baths to once a day. Take shorter showers and baths. Use gentle soap and avoid deodorant soap. Do not scrub when you wash or dry your skin. Smooth on a moisturizer immediately after you dry off. Re-apply moisturizer as needed throughout the day.
- Oily skin – Limit showers and baths to no more than two each day. Use a gentle cleanser. Do not scrub your skin while washing or drying. Never pick or pop pimples, as these slow down healing.
2. Be Consistent
Establish a routine and stick with it. Skin care treatments usually work best when done once or twice each day. Doing something every day also helps you develop the healthy habits you need for good skin.
3. Give It Time
There is no such thing as an instant fix when it comes to healthy skin. Give any changes to your skin care routine about six weeks before you assess the results. The only exception is if you experience rashes or other skin problems following a change to your skin care routine.
4. Use the Right Cleanser
If you have oily skin, foaming liquid breaks down dirt and oils from your pores to give you healthy skin. On the other hand, cream or lotion cleansers have glycerin or Shea butter to soothe dry, red skin. At the same time, oil cleanser is good for sensitive skin.
5. Tone Your Skin
Toners are like supplements you rub on your skin. The thin liquids of toners deliver nutrients and help improve the way your skin absorbs other products. Toners containing alpha and beta hydroxides to gently remove dead skin cells. Those with hyaluronic acid plump up your skin. Meanwhile, toners with rose water, green tea or purple tea calm skin irritation. Those with Vitamins C and E fight free radicals that can damage your skin.
Apply a few drops of toner to your palm or to a cotton ball and rub on your face once or twice daily as directed.
6. Use the Right Moisturizer
Use a water-based gel moisturizer if you have oily skin or a lotion moisturizer if you have normal skin. For dry skin, however, you need cream and soft creams, as they are heavier than lotion. The heavy texture of balm is best for inflamed and sensitive skin, but not for skin prone to acne.
7. Incorporate the Use of an Eye Cream
Eye cream can soothe dark circles from visible veins or skin discolorations. Use eye creams containing caffeine, peptides, or hyaluronic acid if you have inflammation or bags under your eyes.
8. Keep an Eye Out for New Products
