Hydrating your skin with an amazing DIY moisturizer is one of the best decisions your future self will thank you for.
How to Make a DIY Moisturizer with Coconut Oil and Green Tea in 5 Easy Steps
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
The first step in making a DIY face moisturizer is to gather your ingredients. Make sure to pick the healthier alternative for your skin which is the organic choice and skip the chemical-laden ingredients that can possibly damage your skin in the future. While these chemical products promise instant changes in your skin, it may come with a price you’ll soon regret. So, opt for natural ingredients before its too late to protect your skin, especially now that we’re making a DIY facial moisturizer.
Ingredients:
- Coconut Oil (1 cup): It’s rich in Vitamin E which is essential in maintaining healthy, glowing skin. It fights dryness on the skin as it exfoliates, softens, and soothes the skin.
- Green Tea Leaves(2 tbsp): Its antioxidants help reduce wrinkles, sun damage, and free radicals. It also improves collagen production in the skin by providing it with serious hydration.
- Sugar (1/4 cup): Sugar rejuvenates the skin by removing the layers of dead skin cells, leaving your skin shiny and soft.
Step 2: Melt the Coconut Oil
Once you’ve gathered the ingredients, you can now melt the coconut oil over medium heat, bringing it to a gentle boil. Even if your coconut oil isn’t frozen, you may still want to boil it to further liquefy the oil and to remove any bacteria in it. Remember, you have to make sure that your ingredients are clean because you’ll apply these on your face. After boiling it, set aside then proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Brew the Tea
The next thing to do to make a DIY skin moisturizer is to brew the green tea with water for 5 minutes. You may use either a tea bag or 2 tbsp of dried green tea leaves, whichever you prefer. After this, you can pour the green tea into a cup and let it sit for a few minutes.
Step 4: Mix the Coconut Oil, Green Tea, and Sugar
Once the coconut oil and green tea are both at room temperature, you can mix the two with sugar. Use a double boiler to combine the coconut oil with green tea and then add the sugar. Let it simmer for 30 minutes and then strain the tea bag or the tea leaves from the mixture using a cheesecloth. Next, pour it into a small airtight container until the mixture turns solid.
Step 5: Apply the DIY Moisturizer on Your Face
In applying your homemade moisturizer, be sure your face is clean and your fingers too. You don’t want germs getting into your DIY moisturizer or your face, right? Apply this twice a day, every morning and night, and leave it on your face for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and feel how your skin revitalizes every time you do this.
